chocolate layer cake

Here's my favorite chocolate layer cake recipe with a super fudgy texture , try it and it will be your favorite too !

Ingredients : 

The cake :

4 eggs
1 and half cup sugar
1 cup oil
1 cup milk
3 cups flour
10 gr baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Chocolate buttercream :

110 gr chocolate 
150 gr butter
120 gr powdered sugar 
5g cacao powder
2 teaspoons coffee 


Steps :

Preheat oven to 180°C
  • Make the buttercream :

Melt the chocolate and set it aside .
Whisk the butter 3 to 4 minutes , add the powdered sugar and whisk again .
Add the coffee and cacao .
Make sure your chocolate is still melted but is no longer hot .Add it to the preparation and mix without insisting .

  • Make the cake :

Whisk the flour, cacao powder, icing sugar, baking powder , coffee together in a large bowl.
Using a handheld or stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment mix the oil, eggs, milk and vanilla together on medium-high speed until combined.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix .
Bake for 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean .
Remove the cakes from the oven and set on a wire rack .
Refrigerate cake for at least 30 minutes before slicing. This helps the cake hold its shape when cutting.

Assemble and frost:

Place 1 cake layer on your cake stand or serving plate. Evenly cover the top with frosting. Top with 2nd layer and spread remaining frosting all over the top and sides. I always use an icing spatula and bench scraper for the frosting. Garnish with chopped almonds .
